120. Launched the winning design of the Web Design 2.0 contest

The PHPClasses site had Web Design 2.0 contest, i.e. a design contest that allowed the users to propose new designs, allowed the users to try the proposed the designs in real pages, and allowed the users vote on their preferred design. Now the winning design is finally being launched.

This article talks about the initiative and interviews the finalists that disputed the second turn of the election. They gave their opinion about the present and future editions of the site redesign contest.

100. PHP on Windows Azure

PHP is now officially supported as a language for developing applications that can run on Windows Azure, Microsoft's cloud operating system.

This article is an interview with Teoni Valois, an independent PHP and .NET expert that answered some questions to give an overview of the PHP support on Windows Azure.

He also talks about the advantages and disadvantages of running PHP applications on this environment when compared to regular Windows or Linux based hosting or other cloud computing environments.

The number of Indian PHP developers has been growing at a large pace in the last few years, when compared to other countries. A few years ago, India was just one of the top ten countries with more PHP developers. Now India is number 2 and is almost surpassing United States, which is still number 1.

94. Upcoming PHP 5.3 features and beyond

PHP 5.3 release candidate 1 was released a few days ago. The final version is expected to be released in the upcoming weeks.

This article presents an interview with core PHP developer Lukas Kahwe Smith that has pushed many of the new features of PHP 5.3 as release manager.

Lukas talks about PHP 5.3 new features such as lambda functions, closures and PHAR support. He also explains what are traits, which for now it is a feature that was left out of PHP 5.3.

93. Winner of PHP Programming Innovation Award of the year announced

The winner of PHP Programming Innovation Award of 2008 was announced.

Now there is also a ranking of the innovation award of all time that considers the score of each author since the award started in 2004. There are also new rankings of author countries for each year and all time.

Cesar Rodas won the 2008 award. Here he gives an interview telling about many good things that happened since he won last year. He also shares his secrets to contribute so many innovative classes appreciated by the users that voted on them and made possible to win the 2008 award.
